Amundsen Bar & Bistro
Amundsen Bar & Bistro is the place where polar explorer Roald Amundsen gave his final interview. An informal meeting place with a Nordic soul: classic cocktails, carefully curated wines, a fantastic whisky cellar, and a seasonal bistro menu made from quality local produce. Perfect for after-work drinks, a date, or a long evening with good friends—always a warm atmosphere, great flavours, and warm hospitality.
It’s no coincidence that the whisky bar is named after Norway’s greatest Polar explorer of all time. On June 17, 1928, Amundsen held his last ever press conference at Grand Hotel Terminus. Amundsen was interviewed and photographed by local paper Bergens Tidende. Together with other volunteers, he was on his way to rescue Italian explorer Nobile, whose hot air balloon had crashed on the ice in May. The day after the press conference, Amundsen disappeared without a trace on the icy expanse en route from Tromsø to Svalbard. Since Grand Hotel Terminus is known as ‘Bergen’s grand old lady’ and Roald Amundsen is the ‘grand old man’ of Polar exploration. It’s only fitting to use the name Amundsen Bar & Bistro.
