Visit Bjørn is Trondheim’s hidden gem at Bjørn Fjeldvær’s home in Ilevollen. With Bjørn’s love for traditional Norwegian food, served with personal stories and music, you can indulge in a meal far beyond the ordinary.

Visit Bjørn offers experiences in English and Norwegian, and you need to book in advance. There is a maximum of one group per day, 10-24 guests in the living room. (You can also book as singles, on an open night)

Bjørn grew up on a small island, on the farm Fjellvær. All of the food on the table was taken from the barn, the fields and the sea outside. Grandma told stories at the table, and much of Grandma is reflected in the experience: the food, the dishes, the stories and the music. Sometimes Bjørn likes to combine local traditional dishes with Mediterranean delicacies: Bacalao is the house’s signature dish, and at least 2 varieties of bacalao will be served, as well as Bjørn’s bacalao song!

Trøndelag has become Norway’s number one food region. All of the breads are baked in the house on the serving day, and the grain and flour are sourced from nearby farms with their own mills. Salmon, trout and crab are sourced from Hitra, Frøya and Fjellværøya, the vegetables from Frosta, and eggs, milk and meat products are sourced directly from the farmer.

MUSIC
Bjørn is a performing musician and plays a number of instruments. He is the composer of the local anthem: “Hitra Frøya og Fjellværøya” which he wrote at the age of 25. Since then, he has released two albums with his own (and some others) Norwegian songs, and often do concerts outside the house.

In 2002, he received the Hitra Municipality’s Culture Prize for his efforts as a musician and lyricist.

In his house he usually plays 4-5 of his own songs, and creates a very good atmosphere with famous songs by other artists. He knows more than 1200 lyrics by heart, and has regular theme nights where he talks about artists who have meant a lot to him: Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley are 5 of the recurring themes. “The Best of Bjørn” means that you get songs from different artists, combined with the best food, which varies according to the season and the chef’s mood.
