The oldest of the wharves and storehouses lining the river as it passes through the city were built in the 1700s. They appear today much as they did then. The wharves facing seawards are of slightly more recent construction. Most were erected during the 18- and 1900s.
Stiftsgården is the royal residence in Trondheim, Norway. It is centrally situated on the city’s most important thoroughfare, Munkegaten. With 140 rooms constituting 4000 m², it is possibly the largest wooden building in Northern Europe, and it has been used by royalty and their guests since 1800.

The fortress was built after the great fire of 1681, and offers fantastic views of the city and its surroundings. During WWII the Nazi authorities executed members of the Norwegian resistance here. The pre-reformation home and administrative centre of the Norwegian Archbishops. In 1983 a fire destroyed two large wooden buildings in the Archbishops’ palace. A new museum was erected in their place, housing many of the most spectacular finds from the archaeological excavations on the site. Here you’ll also find the reminds of the Archbishop’s mint.
Nidaros Cathedral is the world’s northernmost medieval cathedral and Norway’s national sanctuary. The Cathedral is the grave church of St. Olav, the patron Saint of Norway.
