Jewish Museum in Trondheim opened its doors in May 1997. Jews began to settle in Trondheim in 1880, after the change of the Norwegian constitution in 1851, granting Jews permission to settle in Norway.
The fortress was built after the great fire of 1681, and offers fantastic views of the city and its surroundings. During WWII the Nazi authorities executed members of the Norwegian resistance here. The pre-reformation home and administrative centre of the Norwegian Archbishops. In 1983 a fire destroyed two large wooden buildings in the Archbishops’ palace. A new museum was erected in their place, housing many of the most spectacular finds from the archaeological excavations on the site. Here you’ll also find the reminds of the Archbishop’s mint.
